Tell American Humane Association and Foster Farms to stop lying to the public and abusing animals.
I was shocked to see hidden-camera video footage of workers at American Humane Certified Foster Farms facilities cruelly throwing, punching, and beating chickens. It is an insulting betrayal of animals and consumers that AHA puts its stamp of approval on this blatant animal abuse.
This has to stop!
I am writing to ask American Humane Association and Foster Farms to stop lying to the public and implement meaningful animal welfare requirements, including:
- Replacing live-shackle slaughter methods with less cruel systems that eliminate the horrific suffering caused by dumping, shackling, shocking, and slitting the throats of conscious animals—something already endorsed by AHA
- Ending selective breeding of chickens for rapid growth and shifting to slower-growing breeds to prevent health problems related to accelerated growth
- Providing birds with more space, clean litter, access to adequate light, and environmental enrichments
- Requiring video monitoring systems that live stream to the internet to deter egregious acts of violence against animals
These science-based changes would greatly alleviate needless suffering for millions of animals, and should be the minimum standards for AHA’s certification program.
